What’s hot is the area above the Narrows for big fish. Rufus Woods is still providing nice numbers of triploid rainbows. We have not gotten a report on Roses Lake during this reporting period.

I noticed an air stagnation alert on the Weather Bug. When this happens in the late winter, go fish. Extended periods of high pressure are always good here. On Chelan, try the area for a half-mile on either side of the Narrows for big fish. Use the Rushin’ Salmon Wobbler by Critter Gitter as well as T-4 Purple Glow flatfish. If you have more than two people try a plug that imitates a kokanee suspended in the 130’ to 180’ range over a 300’ bottom. Those giant swim baits by AC Lures work great. If they just won’t bite, move into the lower basin and pound the trench with luminous chartreuse U-20 flatfish to get numbers of 2 to 5 pound lakers. Remember to keep your lure working tight to the bottom. Troll at 1.6 miles per hour and idle your boat often to trigger the predatory response of the fish.

On Rufus Woods troll wooly bugger flies when the current is moving and cast quarter ounce Roostertails when the current is still.

The kid’s tip of the week is to get them involved in the process. If you are casting, they will be engaged. If you are trolling you need to explain to the kid what you are trying to do and give up some control to allow them to do more than just reel a fish in. This is a dynamite way to turn on cynical disinterested teenage boys. Ask them for help. You’ll watch them grow up right before your eyes.

Your safety tip of the week is like a broken record now. (For those of you that remember that broken records repeated a section over and over.) Watch out for low water on Chelan as the PUD drops the lake level as well as the morning frost on the ramps and docks. When you are walking on the docks and ramps check each surface as it changes from wood to plastic to metal for traction before you put your weight on it.
