The Rogue river at this time has started to produce from the fence line up river to the North Slot. According to
fishing diaries more than 41 fish have been taken over last years total at this time in the lower river between Elephant Rock and the Fence line.
Most of the success is coming to boats anchored up to the inside of a run, outsdie of the boat in 6 to 7 feet of water on a high tide.

The single greatest key factor for success is these fish are coming in water between 5 to seven feet on an incoming tide and approximately 2
hours from the peak of a high tide. This is also the time of the run when evening fishing is better regardless of the tide. These fish are moving the last few hours of light. The Rogue Outdoor store in Gold Beach is the hub of fishing information for the Rogue river, anglers report over 40 kings were landed from Agness down river to the fence line, I know that is a lot of country but that simply shows anglers fish are throughout the system.

It is crucial when fising springers that anglers fishing from a boat graph the rivers bottom looking fo a contour, this contour in the bottom could be as little as 12 inches also when looking at a stretch of river look for funnels or slots it could be a tree from the winters high water that was pushed down diverting the flow in one place this is key , anchoring above this area a few hundred yards could pay divedens

The clarity of the water at this time is 4 1/2 to 5 feet in seven feet of water, these fish are traveling just under this layer of light diffusion.

3 to 4 Ounce sinkers depending on the flows are working fine, the best bait at this time is 5 inch sardines combined with a size 3.5 gold hilderbrandt.

Keep an eye out for sea Lions when fighting a fish, make sure your net person does not raise the net high until it is time to net, otherwise these animls are smart enough to know when the net is raised dinner is served.

The surf has been rough down this way but perch anglers are connecting on both Redtail and Poggies. Shrimp is still the number one bait out there
for these great eating fish. The Winchuck River is one of three places anglers should concentrate on, The Beach out in front of the Best Western
is another as is McVay rock.

Bottom fishing is second to none out of Brookings but check swell conditions prior to heading out, it can get rough at times. Lings and rock fish are coming inside the 80 foot line, many anglers heading South are targeting the camel rock area and Akins Point. Shrimp Fly's and an 8
ounce jig head tipped wit a Motor Oil twin tail seams to be the ticket here, if heading North take a good look in and around the Bird Island area, the North side of this Rock holds a very nice slot that holds many rock fish with out heading to deep waters.

Kayak anglers are also seeing good days on the water while fishing the Chetco Cove and Harris beach area.

Clammers are filling limits of both Razor clams and Butter clams. areas along the following beaches, Mc Vay Rock and the Rocks out in front of the Winchuck beach hold some great butter clams, to the North Meyers Creek also host some incredible Razor clamming, keep an eye pealed for minus tides , that is one of the single most important factors to a successful day of clamming.
